A priest wearing a crown reveals one of Zechariah’s most powerful pictures of the Messiah.
In Zechariah 6:9–15, ADONAI commands that crowns be placed upon Joshua the High Priest—an unexpected prophetic sign pointing beyond Joshua to the coming Branch. This promised One will build the Temple of ADONAI, bear splendor, sit and rule upon His throne, and astonishingly, “He will be a kohen on His throne.”
This is the remarkable promise of the Messiah as both King and Priest—the One who wears the crown, exercises authority, and yet also intercedes and brings us near to God.
