The Story of the “Not-Prodigal” Son (Luke 15:25-32) - Shabbat - 05/16/26

May 16, 2026    Rabbi Cosmo Panzetta

You can live near the Father’s house and still miss the Father’s heart.

In this message from Luke 15, the spotlight shifts from the prodigal son to the older brother — the “good” son whose hidden self-righteousness kept him outside the celebration. Yeshua’s parable confronts one of the deepest blind spots in religious life: believing we are righteous because we compare ourselves to other sinners instead of to the holiness and mercy of God.

The Father ran toward the rebellious son… and then walked out pleading with the self-righteous one. Both were lost. Both were deeply loved.

This message is a sobering and grace-filled invitation to lay down pride, rejoice when the lost come home, and rediscover the heart of the Father.
