"That’s Not What I Would Do…" (1 Kings 17:8-16) - Shabbat - 08/22/26

God’s ways often lead us straight into the places we never would have chosen.

When the brook dries up, ADONAI sends Eliyahu into enemy territory—to Zarephath, the heart of Baal country—and tells him that a starving widow will provide for him. The place seems wrong. The person seems inadequate. And God’s solution makes little sense according to human logic.

Yet through every unexpected step, Eliyahu and the widow discover the same truth: God knows exactly what He is doing. The places we would avoid may become places of refining. The people we would overlook may become instruments of His provision. And the solutions we would never choose may become the very means through which He reveals His faithfulness.

When our wisdom says, “That’s not what I would do,” faith answers, “ADONAI, I trust Your ways more than mine.”
