"Faith in the Darkest Moments" (1 Kings 17:17-24) - Shabbat - 08/29/26

Faith is not pretending the darkness doesn’t hurt—it is choosing to trust God right in the middle of it.

In 1 Kings 17:17–24, a widow who had already experienced God’s miraculous provision suddenly faces an unimaginable tragedy: the death of her son. Elijah doesn’t dismiss her grief or silence her questions. He carries her pain, brings it honestly before ADONAI, and then boldly asks the King of the Universe to do what had never been done before.

This teaching explores how we can respond when life takes an unexpected and painful turn: making room for grief, bringing our questions directly to God, asking Him to intervene, and continuing to trust Him even when His answer is not the one we hoped for.

Our God is able to do the impossible. But true faith goes even deeper—it says, “He is able,” while also declaring, “Even if He does not, I will still trust Him.”
