“A Hero Returns with a Purple Heart” (Philippians 2:25-30) - Daily Manna - 09/18/26

A hero doesn’t always return from the battle untouched.

In Phil. 2:25–30, Epaphroditus returns home like a wounded fellow soldier—having risked his life for the work of Messiah and for the sake of others. Paul holds him up as someone worthy of honor because his life demonstrates everything Philippians 2 has been teaching: humility, sacrifice, selfless service, and the mind of Messiah lived out in real life.

This teaching also reminds us that biblical joy does not mean the absence of sorrow. Even in suffering, Paul recognizes the mercy of God and rejoices when a beloved brother is restored.

Epaphroditus wasn’t merely part of Paul’s travel plans—he was a living example of what it looks like to put others before yourself and follow the pattern of Yeshua.
